Description(Decades of EXtragalactic workshop) – The Universe Across Scales: New Observations and Models from Nearby Galaxies to High Redshift https://indico.ph.ed.ac.uk/event/389/

More InformationThe frontiers of modern astronomy are being pushed by transformative observations and increasingly predictive simulations and theory. JWST’s high‑redshift breakthroughs, together with imminent wide‑field imaging from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory (LSST) and next‑generation spectroscopy from Euclid, DESI, WEAVE, 4MOST and MOONS, are opening new windows to the study of galaxy formation, stellar evolution, galaxy formation, the intergalactic medium and cosmology. In parallel, cosmological simulations, from gravity‑only to fully hydrodynamical, built with codes such as SWIFT and AREPO and flagship suites including Euclid Flagship, Simba, COLIBRE and IllustrisTNG, now reach the fidelity needed to confront these data with precision. This DEX meeting will bring together observers and theorists to: link nearby galaxies, the CGM/IGM and large‑scale structure to their high‑z progenitors; test the galaxy–halo connection and the impact of stellar and AGN feedback on gas and star formation; probe reionisation and the first generations of stars and black holes; and assess emergent tensions with ΛCDM and gravity. By uniting new observations with cutting‑edge theory, the workshop aims to explore coherent, testable pictures of galaxy evolution and cosmology across all scales. | |||||||||||||||
